In 2015, UNIDO Textile and Footwear Project in Armenia initiated the creation of a joint brand, namely 5900BC, to expose the new collections prepared by different garment and footwear companies under a single label. The brand implied also a different approach and a different quality of the products achieved through UNIDO’s technical assistance. The name of the label has a pre-history. It was elaborated by the Project team, based on the revelations about the world’s oldest skirt made from the straw discovered in Armenia, which dates back to 5900 years ago and BC stands for “Best Collection”.

Thanks to the efforts of devoted professionals, the “5900BC” clothing combines the best of the Armenian garment-making traditions and the latest European trends.

Overall, 14 garment and 2 footwear collections have been created so far under the umbrella brand 5900 BC with respective catalogs and official website.
As part of export-oriented activities, the 5900BC joint collections were showcased at various international and national exhibitions, fashion shows, business platforms and other events, such as International Collection Premiere Moscow (CPM), Bee Together, MosShoes, Izmailovo Shoes, etc. Continuous participation in the various platforms under an umbrella brand, opened up opportunities for the Armenian manufacturers to gain recognition and establish business networks with the biggest store chains in the region.
